Enabling Members to buy without the need for large capacity storage facilities

When Troy was founded, a large number of early Members specialised in cutting tools and engineering products, which didn’t need large warehousing to store their stock. Trojan Tools was ultimately created to assist the Troy Membership in buying its small range of own brand of cutting and hand tools at a competitive price. As the members diversified over the years, into other markets a greater demand came from the members for PPE, janitorial and paper products. For members not specialising in this sector, Trojans ‘easy buy’ policy has allowed them to compete and to fulfil small customer orders in brands they do not stock or where the minimum order or pack size direct from the manufacturer is not commercially viable.

Evolution of product ranges

Since its inception, the ranges at Trojan Tools have increased and adapted to Members’ changing requirements from the original products such as jobber drills, TBD cutting oils, files and hand tools to now also stocking a range of own brand products and several market leading PPE brands. Today, it continues to give Members ‘easy buy purchase’ on many brands at small quantities, enabling them to meet their mixed orders.

Holding bulk-only supplier promotional stock & offering smaller quantities

Where suppliers have had exclusive offers but only on large quantities, Trojan Tools has been able to facilitate single or smaller quantities for Members by negotiating a bulk order for the Trojan warehouse. On occasions this has resulted in Members getting an even better rate than buying from the supplier direct.

An easy way for a Member to dip a toe into diversification opportunities

Trojan Tools allows Members to try small quantities of product in market sectors that they don’t usually operate within without the financial risk of stocking unfamiliar items; they can then make a commercial decision to buy directly with a supplier or continue ordering through Trojan. This has been demonstrated with Trojan supporting Troy’s quarterly ‘Trader’ magazine. Being part of this Member selling tool continues to be a great success, particularly in assisting with easy-buy including seasonal products.
